MuseNet is a deep neural network that can generate 4-minute musical compositions with 10 different instruments, combining styles from country to Mozart to the Beatles. It discovered patterns of harmony, rhythm, and style by learning from hundreds of thousands of MIDI files. MuseNet can blend different generations and create compositions in various styles. It has some limitations, such as the instruments requested being strong suggestions, not requirements, and having difficulty with odd pairings of styles and instruments. MuseNet uses the recompute and optimized kernels of Sparse Transformer to train a 72-layer network with 24 attention heads. It can remember long-term structure and create melodic structures. The dataset used for training includes collections of MIDI files from various sources, including ClassicalArchives and BitMidi. MuseNet has different kinds of embeddings to provide structural context. Users can upload their compositions and share them with OpenAI.
